3 Most Common Questions About Sod

Apr 17, 2017 | Turfgrass Products

If you’re looking to get a lush, beautiful lawn in Florida, sod could be your best option. Here are some of the most frequently asked questions we hear about sod.

What’s the Difference Between Sod and Regular Grass?

Our sod grass is planted at our Central Florida sod farm and then is removed carefully from the ground in sections that are held together by the roots.

This allows the sod to be replanted easily in a new location, such as your lawn. And because the sod is fully matured, once it’s installed in your lawn it is already looking beautiful! Overall, planting sod is the simplest way to obtain a perfect lawn.

How Much Work is Maintaining Sod?

Sod maintenance is simple compared to other grass choices, such as growing grass from seed. Seed is limited to only a couple of varieties. After seed is applied over the lawn it must be carefully watered and nurtured for months until it grows in. As your seed grass grows in, weeds pose a serious threat, as the grass may be too delicate to survive.

Sod maintenance is fairly straightforward; just water it, avoid treading on it for a few days and don’t cut it too short.

Are There Different Types of Sod?

Sod is available in a variety of different grass types, each with its own benefits based on location and purpose.
Maybe you are looking for one of the sturdy native grasses of St. Augustine – Seville, Floratam, Bitterblue or Palmetto, or perhaps you are looking for something soft between your toes like Empire Zoysia, or it could be that you are looking for something durable and long-lasting like the drought, disease and insect resistant Bahia Grass. With sod, you have plenty of options to choose from!
